Babuk Locker gang targets DC Metro Police in ransomware attack

Sadly local and state municipalities are constantly being targeted successfully by threat actors. They rely on the fact that these types of organizations often lack appropriate funding and resources to implement effective security and data privacy programs. There are many low-cost safeguards that organizations can put in place to minimize their risk and potential impact of a successful data breach.

The Babuk Locker gang claimed in a post on the dark web that they had compromised the DC Police's networks and stolen 250 GB of unencrypted files. Screenshots shared by the group, and seen by The Hacker News, include various folders containing what appears to be investigation reports, arrests, disciplinary actions, and other intelligence briefings.
