Brad Portnoy is a Managing Director in the Ankura Office of the CFO™, based in Chicago. Brad brings extensive experience in developing agile short-term and long-term cash flow forecasts. He leverages his digital expertise to create efficient and accurate cash flow models using large datasets. His data wrangling and visualization skills streamline the cash flow process and enhance KPI dashboards.
Experience
Brad’s professional experience spans across a variety of industries ― such as manufacturing, retail, restaurants, distribution, and automotive ― and includes:
- Customer profitability: Developed advanced customer-level profitability analytics for a $5 billion private-equity owned retail distribution company. Led the implementation of strategic routing and pre-defined shipping days, which generated positive monthly EBITDA for a branch that previously incurred losses each month.
- Operational advisor: Optimized third-party delivery operations and accounting for a $7 billion private-equity owned restaurant group. Enhancements led to over $5 million in historic cash recapture and an estimated $2.5 million in annual cash recapture in perpetuity. Accounting close time was reduced by 50% through automation and improved data integrity.
- Strategic financial advisor: Led a finance assessment for a $2 billion private-equity owned financial technology company. Provided benchmarking, observations, and roadmaps to obtain current and future objectives for finance. Automated financial forecasting process and implemented KPI dashboards as part of the assessment.
- Operational finance: Served as interim operational finance manager for a $2 billion private equity owned storage and inventory company. Developed the company’s business case proposal and review process, leading to more strategic deployment of capital. Designed fulfillment analytics, resulting in a reduction in delayed deliveries in struggling markets.
- Process improvement: Implemented an Alteryx-based working capital forecasting model at a distressed printing company, resulting in higher model accuracy, a streamlined output, and 250 hours of annual time savings for the client.
- Forecast process design: Established financial modeling and scenario analysis process for a Fortune 500 travel company as they pivoted strategy during COVID-19. The models were based primarily on customers’ willingness to travel. Cash flow model output aided in a $3 billion capital raise.
Prior to joining Ankura, Brad was a manager at a Big 4 firm, where he was part of the turnaround and restructuring practice. Brad represented both debtors and creditors in formal bankruptcy proceedings and out-of-court restructurings. Brad also led the implementation of complex accounting guidance for distressed companies.
