Brian Dance

Brian has broad experience in the construction industry with projects ranging  from high-rise concrete structures to complex steel structures to multi-disciplined industrial plant modifications. He has experience in municipal, healthcare, aviation, education, multi-family housing, and retail facilities  throughout North America and abroad. He has experience in analysis and design of both public and private buildings, having worked on projects for state and federal governments, including the U.S. Navy on the island of Guam. Moreover, he provides  consulting,  analysis  and  advisory  services  including technical analysis of design and construction processes as well as  constructability / peer reviews and façade investigations.

Examples of his professional experience include:

• Assisted an Owner in analyzing impacts and delays from an OEM due to structural design not meeting State Building Codes. Reviewed calculations, drawings, and contemporaneous project records to determine damages suffered by the owner as a result of OEM’s errors and omissions. Assisted Owner on three separate contractor claims relating to steel erection and equipment setting, electrical work and design issues. Total claims exceeded $100M.
• Assisted a  General  Contractor  in  analyzing  the  suitability  of  the contract documents on a $100M+ claim for a multi-modal transportation hub. Analyzed late-issued revisions to the design drawings due to as-found conditions, improperly executed field   observations   and   surveys, poorly   coordinated   drawings, and omitted specifications.
• Assisted a Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) / institutional owner in assessment, documentation, causation, liability, damages, and report with respect to design / construction defect litigation valued at  $15M+ on a multifamily facility asset.
• Assisted a general contractor in analyzing the suitability of the design drawings and specifications. Specifically reviewed in-detail the structural steel design and detailing issues that occurred during construction of a $110M performing arts center. Issues included design drawing review, submittal analysis, steel detailing and fabrication review, among others.
• Lead Structural Engineer in assisting plant engineers on multiple large-scale engineering upgrades to the plant capital infrastructure; including alternative spent fuel pool piping and equipment supports, as well as a new chiller  building with associated piping, equipment and supporting structures.
• Structural Design Manager for additions / modifications to various VA operating hospitals and outpatient clinics in the U.S. Designed structural systems, utilized micropile foundations, designed buildings to the blast loading and progressive collapse standards required for VA facilities, and coordinated the structural design documents with the Architect of Record and other engineering disciplines.
