Neeli Kohan is a Managing Director at Ankura based in New York. She has more than 20 years of experience in the valuation of public and private businesses, securities, and intangible/tangible assets. She has performed valuations for purposes of financial reporting including business combinations, goodwill, and long lived asset impairment testing for U.S. GAAP and IFRS, federal tax purposes, project financing, sale/leaseback transactions, M&A due diligence, and management information purposes. She has worked across multiple industries including alternative investment firms, power generation, gas, electric, water and wastewater utilities, alternative energy providers, media and entertainment, shipping, and transportation.

Experience

Neeli’s professional experience includes:

  • Performed a valuation of approximately 60 alternative investments across a variety of industries on a quarterly basis for fair value purposes. Holdings include investments in debt, equity, and derivatives.
  • Performed a monthly valuation for a private equity firm with over $10 billion in assets including fixed income and equity holdings in conjunction with its monthly reporting to investors.
  • Performed a valuation for an international acquirer of a U.S.-based wind farm developer/operator. Total consideration was $2.15 billion, and the acquisition was structured as a tax equity investment. Assets acquired included 559 MW of wind energy generation facilities, 997 MW of wind generation capacity under construction, and an additional 9,000 MW development pipeline.
  • Performed valuation analyses of European-based electricity transmission and distribution networks, gas distribution networks, district heat distribution networks, wastewater treatment facilities and their associated transportation pipelines, and water treatment facilities and their associated distribution pipelines in connection with cross border leasing transactions (lease in, lease out, and sale leaseback).
  • Performed a goodwill impairment valuation analysis on an annual basis with respect to the business units of one of the world’s largest media and entertainment companies for financial reporting purposes. The units included filmed entertainment, cable and television networks, film libraries, music, magazine and book publishing, cable television systems, and Internet service provider services.
  • Performed a valuation of the assets of a U.S. flagged Jones Act container ship operator for purposes of a goodwill Impairment Step 2 analysis for financial reporting purposes.
  • Performed a purchase price allocation of a U.S. flagged Jones Act tug barge operator for financial reporting purposes.
  • Performed a valuation of an internet site for M&A due diligence purposes. The analysis included a purchase price allocation and business enterprise value. Assets included trade names, content, technology, and customer relationships.
  • Performed a valuation for federal income tax purposes of a 250 MW wind energy generation facility acquired by a consortium of financial investors.
  • Performed a purchase price allocation for financial reporting purposes under U.S. GAAP and IFRS of a 550 MW solar energy generation project which was under construction. Assets valued included the solar facility, a power purchase agreement, and a land lease.
  • Performed a purchase price allocation for financial reporting purposes under U.S. GAAP and IFRS of a 300 MW cogeneration facility. Assets valued included the cogen facility, a power purchase agreement, a steam sales agreement, financial assets and liabilities, and a land lease.
