Robert L. Neary is a Managing Director at Ankura specializing in e-discovery services, technology assisted review, discovery management, and managed review. Based out of Washington, DC and Charleston, he has over 20 years of experience consulting with law firms and corporations across a variety of industries including financial services, telecommunications, pharmaceuticals, and healthcare on their most complex discovery challenges.

Experience

Bob has extensive experience designing and implementing discovery and management strategies for clients tasked with multifaceted investigations and litigations including class actions, multi-district litigations, HSR compliance, second requests, False Claims Act (FCA), and Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) matters. He consults with clients and legal teams to develop customized e-discovery project plans, budgets, timelines, and workflows. 

Bob’s professional experience includes:

  • Led a team of experts assisting multiple defendant parties and more than 800 attorneys with discovery efforts related to over 1,000 active toxic tort matters including multi-district litigations, class actions, and government investigations. Bob’s responsibilities include overseeing the application of data analytics and predictive modeling to assist clients with identifying material relative to their needs across over 120 terabytes of produced data.
  • Managed the discovery efforts related to a Commodity Futures Trading Commission investigation of a financial services client which involved both structured and unsctructured data and audio recordings of trader calls occuring over a five year period which underwent programic silence analysis and removal resulting in thousands of review hour savings for the client.
  • Led discovery efforts for a technology company’s compliance in an HSR second request. Through advanced analytics, predictive coding, and other review management methodologies, the document universe was reduced by 40%.
  • Planned and managed discovery efforts for a national hospital system client which required the collection and review of 56 terabytes of data from 500 custodians across nine locations, utilized data analytics and more than 150 attorneys for the review of more than 20 million documents. The discovery process yielded over 100 U.S., UK, Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and South America in regard to an FPCA investigation of Fortune 500 retailer.
  • Coordinated and managed a more than 250 attorney document review of 18 million document data set for a Fortune 250 financial institution in simultaneous class action litigations and government investigations.
  • Managed a more than 300 attorney review of 22 million document data set for Fortune 50 telecommunications company in an HSR second request review utilizing analytics and technology assisted review.
  • Planned and executed the collection and attorney review of three terabytes of data for a pharmaceutical client’s four-week due diligence review.
  • Planned and managed collection and rolling review and production of over 10 terabytes of data for international pharmaceutical company in antitrust investigation.
