Emma’s professional experience includes:
- Led the forensic accounting of an investigation into alleged fraud and financial mismanagement of a large UK company. The work included a review of financial information including statutory accounts, management accounts, and underlying ledgers and bank statements to assess the debt position of a key contractor in the business.
- Instructed by an international sporting organization, Emma carried out and project managed a forensic review of a key event in which a large cost deficit was reported by one of the event hosts. The client wanted to understand the factors leading to the cost deficit, the reason for the decline in financial performance compared to initial forecasts, and the individuals involved in key decision-making processes.
- Led the review of a third-party contract for a UK government audit of potential overspend or error. The work included a review of multi-million-pound contracts, review of significant data volumes to recalculate expected spend and assessment of overspend for the client to understand position to reclaim costs.
- Supported external legal counsel on a large, multi-jurisdictional forensic accounting engagement as part of an on-going dispute into terrorist finance allegations against the client. The work involved in-depth investigations into intricate money flows, presenting findings to counsel and overseeing day-to-day operations of a team of juniors to support counsel’s objectives in preparation for litigation.
- Project manager for all third-party audits in EMEA for a global technology company, with reviews undertaken in the UAE, Ukraine, Russia, Ghana, South Africa, Turkey, and across Eastern Europe. The work includes identifying and analyzing high-risk third-party transactions and interviews with personnel. The third-party audits often involved investigation into specific allegations of bribery and corruption, which included working alongside external counsel. Emma managed all audits in EMEA and liaised directly with the client on initiating new audits and resourcing and reviewing the project team’s output in the region.
- Led the engagement for a FTSE 100 company which had whistleblower allegations of senior management misappropriating company funds through third party suppliers. The work involved reviewing accounting information, open-source research, email review, and interviews to establish the level of spend by management.
- Investigated several allegations as part of a reputational review of an Eastern European company looking for investment opportunities. The work included one-month on-site work where Emma assisted with conducting interviews, investigating accounting records, and performing due diligence and public record research in both the local and English language to report on the substance of the allegations.
- Conducted a forensic accounting review for a global financial technology client subject to whistleblower allegations of fraud and round-tripping. Emma reviewed and analyzed large volumes of accounting information and supporting evidence to ascertain if there were any irregularities associated with the transactions under investigation.
- Conducted email review and interviews as part of an investigation into compliance breaches at a Middle East operation of a U.S.-based global pharmaceutical company. Other investigations for this client include employee misconduct, inappropriate engagement with HCPs, and third-party contract reviews. The investigations have spanned Eastern Europe, Russia, and the Middle East.
